Why a bobcat isn’t always the best solution for earthmoving projects?

Looking to hire a bobcat? Think again because a device good for a certain activity may not be best on all. It is without a doubt that bobcat offers certain strengths but it also has a weakness that has to be considered before jumping to a conclusion. When it comes to large earthmoving projects, you need heavy and powerful equipment and the bobcat is not always the best solution.

If you need to move large amounts of earth, excavate foundations for landscaping, or clearing large areas of the dirt or earth; you’re in deep need of powerful and heavy earth-moving equipment. The availability of such is critical to keep large construction projects on time and within budget.

It is of no doubt that a bobcat is highly maneuverable especially when you’re working in a confined space or when getting to where you need to work involves narrow access. Yes, you can use bobcat for rubbish removal on a building site but you can’t work on demolishing a multi-story building. You can work for the landscaping work in the backyards but if you need to excavate a large piece of soil; you are better off with an excavator hire purchase.

Excavators can range from 1.5 tons to 13 tons and this makes it highly adaptable as per your job site needs.

With that being said, let’s have a critical analysis of why a bobcat isn’t always the best solution for earthmoving projects.

Size Limitations

If you’re thinking about hiring a compact bobcat you could not lift heavier weights. They are smaller in size and their attachments could not allow lifting of heavier weights. Most bobcats have a small bucket size and it also is a bit slower than trucks.

Reach Limitations

If you need to dig down into the ground or you have got to move loads with extended reach, a bobcat won’t be the best choice. Instead, a mini-excavator would be more useful in such worksites.

Power limitations

If you need a powerful excavation or lifting job at the site, bobcat won’t make it. Bobcat is good only for specific types of tasks and to make your work simpler. So, if you’re looking to hire one machine for your earthmoving tasks; a bobcat along will not be enough. Excavator, on the other hand, can take care of trenching, ripping, demolition, digging, rock-breaking, tree removal, and many others.

Rotation

In terms of rotation, bobcat offers to skid maneuverability but with an excavator, the operator can rotate the entire machine’s chassis and arm together in a complete circle making it ideal for moving around different jobs.

The Bottom Line

It is no doubt that a bobcat can simplify certain tasks but it can only be taken as an auxiliary vehicle for specific types of tasks. Excavators, on the other hand, exchange maneuverability for far greater on-the-job capacity and you won’t need to move a pallet. No matter how big your job is, a mini excavator hire can handle a variety of them including demolition and landscaping.
